Andrew Burroughs

Tuesday, November 13, 5:00 — 1404 Siebel Center

Andrew Burroughs leads the Chicago office of IDEO, one of the most eminent design consultancies in the world, based in Palo Alto, California, with offices in London, Munich, Shanghai, and four other U.S. cities. Among many successful products, IDEO designed the first production computer mouse and the Palm V PDA, leading to the firm?s winning almost twice as many design awards from BusinessWeek as any other design consultancy.

IDEO has pioneered an approach to design based on the close observation of user needs and realized in creative and innovative ways. IDEO calls this approach ?design thinking? and has used this powerful approach in many fields other than product design. Andrew?s talk will go beyond this to involve his own interest in observation of the engineering details of our everyday environment, often overlooked but greatly meaningful, and explored in detail in his book, Everyday Engineering.
